ADELAIDE
Things to do
Tee Off
When it comes to golf, head out onto one of Adelaide’s great golf courses – there are five international-class golf courses within a 30 minute drive of the city. Some of our favourites include Links Lady Bay on the Fleurieu Peninsula just outside of Adelaide and the Royal Adelaide Club at Seaton which has played host to the Women’s Australian Open, and the Grange Golf Club.
Events City
After Edinburgh, Adelaide Fringe is the world’s second largest annual arts festival and has a history stretching back more than 60 years. During the Lions tour to Australia Illuminate Adelaide will light up the skies of the city fusing art, music, light shows and technology to create an incredible atmosphere as the sun goes down for the full month of July.
Private R.M. Williams Tour
Go behind the scenes and learn about R.M.Williams’ journey from swagman to millionaire, paying a visit to the workshop which still creates the iconic Chelsea-style boots today. Have a personal fitting of your very own Craftsman boots and visit the R.M.Williams museum.
Adelaide Hills
Just a 20 minute drive from the vineyard city of Adelaide, the Adelaide Hills is home to lots of boutique wineries and artisan producers. Enjoy long lunches and tastings in atmospheric wine cellars, and explore the local craft breweries and gin distillers set in stunning countryside teeming with native wildlife.
NATIONAL PARK CITY
Adelaide is one of the few cities in the world which has been designated National Park City status. Its commitment to being greener, wilder and cooler is evidenced in the amazing park lands, hills, beaches and conservation areas in and around the city. Teeming with native wildlife Adelaide is best explored on foot, by two wheels or out on the water. New e-bike adventures along the river, paddle boarding at the beach and walking tours led by expert guides introduce you to the laidback lifestyle the locals enjoy year-round.
HOP OVER TO KANGAROO ISLAND
Kangaroo Island, just a 30 minute flight from Adelaide, is home to all the big hitting Aussie wildlife and makes for a great break between Lions tour matches. Whether you’re swimming with pods of wild dolphins, spotting sealions lazing on the sand at Seal Bay, fishing off one of the many beaches, wildlife touring with a local field guide in the national park, or indulging in the island produce you’re guaranteed a very special few days.
BEAUTIFUL BAROSSA
The Barossa is one of the world’s most famous wine regions and just an hours’ drive from Adelaide - one of the Great Wine Capitals of the World. A visit here is a must for any Lions fan wanting to taste some of Australia’s best vintages. Book a day’s touring with a local guide to uncover under-the-radar gems as well as enjoying access to some of the big hitting brands. A glass of Shiraz, paired with some delicious local cheeses as kangaroos play in the vines, never tasted so good. If you have more time continue north to enjoy time spent in the Ikara-Flinders National Park – a stunning outback region with amazing hiking, mountain biking and cultural touring experiences.
CAGE SHARK DIVE DOWN UNDER
The Eyre Peninsula, a 45 minute flight from Adelaide, is one of the few places in the world you can cage dive with Great White Sharks. July is also a great month to swim with giant cuttlefish. Just once a year these curious creatures congregate in their thousands for breeding in the Upper Spencer Gulf Marine Park on the Eyre Peninsula. Watch them change pattern and colour as you snorkel with a marine expert who’s on hand to share the science behind this truly immersive phenomenon.
