new experiences around every corner
From the moment you arrive you’ll be greeted with a friendly ‘Bula!’ (simply the local ‘hello’) in this tropical idyl located in the sparkling South Pacific Ocean.
Just a four-hour flight journey from Sydney, Fiji is sure to conjure up images of exotic idyls and tropical hideaways – it’s a definite bucket list tick! It is in fact made up of over 330 islands in its archipelago with Viti Levu being the largest and home to Suva the capital and largest city. Like neighbouring Vanua Levu the islands were formed from volcanic activity some 150 million years ago.
Discover Fijian hospitality exploring local markets with organic produce in the nation’s capital, Nadi where diverse cuisine reflects its culture, from vibrant street food to gourmet dining.
Suva is one of the most cosmopolitan places in the South Pacific, home to around a third of Fiji’s population. Suva is the economic, educational and diplomatic hub in the South Pacific region. Lured by its attractive deep harbour and abundant land, Fiji’s British colonists moved the capital of Fiji from Levuka here in 1882.
As a major centre for trade since then, you’ll find many buildings from the British colonial era amongst the city’s more modern high-rise buildings. Be sure to spend time exploring the tropical metropolis with shopping malls, farmers markets, restaurants and entertainment.
