Public transport

Transport for New South Wales provides a variety of ways to get around the city, as well as information for motorists. Use the trip planner at www.transportnsw.info  to plan your travel.

Opal card info 

The Opal card is an easy, convenient way of paying for your travel on public transport in Sydney. It can be used on all public transport, including trains, ferries, buses and light rail. There are daily and weekly caps on the Opal network, meaning you can travel as much as you like within the Opal network, and you never pay more than the capped fare. The Sydney Airport station access fee isn’t included in the travel caps.  Opal cards can be obtained from train stations and the domestic and international airport, as well as many retailers across the city.

You can also pay with contactless-enabled American Express, Mastercard or Visa credit or debit cards or a linked device, by tapping on and tapping off at Opal readers. Contactless payments are available on all public transport in the Opal network, and you will receive the same travel benefits of an Adult Opal card.

Sydney Airport is located about 5.59 miles/9 kms south of Sydney’s city centre in the suburb of Mascot.

 

The three passenger terminals at Sydney Airport are:

T1: International Terminal

T2: Domestic Terminal is used by domestic and regional airlines including Jetstar, Rex, Virgin Australia and FlyPelican.

T3: Domestic Terminal is used for Qantas and QantasLink domestic flights.

 

Train – Sydney Airport is located just 13 minutes by train from the city. Airport Link offers a fast and convenient way to reach the city and suburbs, with trains running approximately every 10 minutes.

Bus – If you’re looking for transfer services that provide transport between the airport and most Sydney suburbs and regional areas, you can find a range of providers via https://www.mozio.com/en-us/ .

 

Taxi – You can access taxis and rideshare services when you arrive. The Sydney CBD is a short, 20-minute ride away. You’ll find taxi ranks at the front of all terminals – simply follow the signs to the nearest ranks.

Uber and other ride hailing App services are available.

Buses form a key part of Sydney’s public transport system, connecting all areas of the city, including those without rail or water transport. There are also NightRide services replacing most train routes between midnight and 4:30am.

‘Opal only’ identify particular bus routes and bus stops where Opal cards or contactless payment methods are the only accepted fare payment method.

This means you cannot buy a ticket from the driver and you must have a valid Opal card with sufficient funds or contactless card or device ready to tap on as you board the bus.

Some bus routes or stops are ‘Opal only’ at all times, while some may only require an Opal card at certain times of the day in order to speed up boarding times and keep buses moving quickly.

Other routes and stops are ‘Opal only’ at certain times (usually during busy or peak travel periods), but outside these times tickets can be bought from the driver as you get on.

You can see in advance if your bus route or bus stop is ‘Opal only’ by using the Trip Planner (https://transportnsw.info/trip#/trip ) to plan your trip and checking for an alert that will tell you if any of the stops or bus routes in your journey are ‘Opal only’.

RAIL

Sydney’s main terminus for local and regional trains and buses is Central Station at Railway Square, close to Chinatown. Trains operate North to the CBD and across the harbour to North Sydney and beyond, as well as east to Bondi Junction and South past and including Sydney Airport. The L1 Inner West Light Rail network operates in both directions between Central Station and Dulwich Hill in Sydney’s West. The CBD and South East Light Rail includes the L2 Randwick Line connecting Circular Quay to Randwick and the L3 Kingsford Line between Circular Quay and Junior Kingsford. FERRIES

Ferries provide a fast and convenient way to cross the harbour, as well as offering a fantastic vantage point of the city. From Circular Quay you can take the Manly Fast Ferry or F1 to Manly, the F2 to Taronga Zoo and the F4 to Watsons Bay and Rose Bay: www.myfastferry.com.au 

Captain Cook https://www.captaincook.com.au/ferry/ also operates ferries between various locations including between Watsons Bay and Manly, Circular Quay and Clifton Gardens and from Circular Quay to Shark Island.

The river ferry travels up the Parramatta River from Circular Quay to Parramatta, with stops along the way including Cockatoo Island, Cabarita and Sydney Olympic Park. The full journey takes about 90 minutes depending on stops.

Day Trip to Adelaide

Wednesday 30 July - Departs 9:30 AM / Returns 17:00 PM

The Barossa is in South Australia, about 70km north-east of Adelaide, the state’s capital city.   Your trip will include a visit of the city centre, The State Library of South Australia and lunch at a local wine bar and kitchen. 

The State Library is the information heart of South Australia, located in the North Terrace Cultural Precinct.  You will have the opportunity to explore all three buildings: the award-winning contemporary Catherine Helen Spence Wing with its iconic glass foyer, the Mortlock Wing with its 19th century Victorian splendour, and the 1861 heritage listed Institute Building.

Sweeping stadium views, stylish bar and lounge, premium menu and extensive wine list.  Bespoke Wine Bar & Kitchen is one of Adelaide’s most impressive dining experiences.

Extending across level three of Oval Hotel and into the iconic Adelaide Oval, Bespoke’s unique setting makes a stunning backdrop lunch.

Executive Chef Daniel Simpson’s modern Australian menu brings bold flavours to life through fresh, seasonal produce.  Two drinks are included, and you may choose from house wine, beer or a soft drink.

After lunch you will be transferred to the North Terrace, Adelaide city where you can choose to spend your time either at Rundle Mall, The Art Gallery of South Australia or South Australian Museum.

 

PLEASE NOTE:  We have been advised that the carpet is being replaced in the Mortlock Chamber (section of the library) and we are now unable to conduct tours through this section during July so we will amend the Private tour of the State Library slightly and now include access to the basement (old & rare artifacts storage) which is an area of the library usually inaccessible to the public. 

 

Private 60 minute tour of State Library of South Australia | 30 July 2025 – 11:00am

Guests will have the opportunity to explore one of South Australia’s great institutions and take a look behind the shelves. An expert librarian will take you on a walk sharing stories of how the State Library began. Your experience starts at the historic Adelaide Circulating Library to learn the history of the building. By 1861, the collection of books held there was to became the first public library in South Australia. The Adelaide Circulating Library has been used in the past as a backdrop to several movies including Shine and Gallipoli. Continue your way to the basement to see some of the interesting old & rare artifacts housed in the library. Discover how the state’s most important treasures are maintained in the state-of-the-art storage and how the preservations team cares for the collection.
